At Knaresborough castle market this Saturday, two Iranien students in their twenties, bought these two pictures.
One student said "The first place I visited here in England was York, I feel a contection to this embroidery."
I explained, the houses at "The Shambles,"were tricky to sew on canvas, as they were all bent & uneven, but I enjoyed the challanged.
The other students liked the cottage sewing. "It's so British with the thatched roof & flowers. Our houses have flat rooves."
I explained I had seen a house like this down south of England, but I try to modernize my embroidery by using oil paints & various other techniques in my pictures.
Before paying they both asked "Can you date, sign, & leave a little personal message for us on the back".
A little curious I asked. "Are these for a special occation".
"No. " They explained. "In our country we have a tradition to hand things we value down to our children".
"Will they connect & appriciate it in the same way as you," I asked.
"Yes. We will tell them, how a nice lady at a craft fair in England, hand embroidered the picture. They in turn hand it down to our gran-children, & down the line over generations. Because one day you be famous, just like some of the emboideried in the castles & stateley houses we been to here in England".
They had me almost in tears. Times like this you know all the hard work is worth it.
I thank all my wonderful customers for all the encouragement they give me.
